Corporate Accountant
Directly reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Controller.

The Corporate Accountant will oversee and be engaged with all accounting and bookkeeping functions within the LIFE Group of Companies. They will lead the administrative staff and be intimately involved in the preparation and monitoring of the financial records of company and associated subsidiaries, financial planning and analysis, and will provide management information and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and the organisation’s policies.

Remuneration: $70,000 to $85,000 salary per year (Based on experience).

Location & Hours:
Flexible working hours amounting to 40–48-hour work week.
Remote work options available (25-50% on site in Lunenburg, NS, more if a particular week requires it).

 

Responsibilities of the Corporate Accountant include but are not limited to:

Overseeing and maintenance of accounting records for three separate companies and any other companies as acquired or amalgamated.

Reconcile intercompany transactions among the companies monthly.

Maintenance of corporate bank accounts ensuring they are reconciled with internal accounting and maintenance of a 14 day cash flow forecast.

Implement and maintain Inventory Control of physical, intangible, and work in progress (WIP) inventories.

Oversee real and personal asset maintenance and tracking.

Complete or delegate depreciation and capitalization journal entries on a monthly basis.

Complete or delegate other period end journal entries and adjustments as necessary.

Oversight of AR, AP, and payroll functions.

Complete or delegate tax remittance (HST, Income tax, & payroll) as required.

Contribute to company forecasting and budgeting functions.

Lead staff to encourage maximum performance and dedication and contribute to performance evaluations.

Establish and maintain accounting and control policies that promote company culture, vision and profitability.

Prepare reports for management and board of directors.

Assist leadership in fundraising ventures as needed.

Participate in expansion activities (investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances etc.) as directed by supervisor and manage relationships with partners/vendors.

Abide by company safety rules and safety policies. Enforce safe working procedures and company safety policies. Abide by environmental regulations and enforce company environmental policy. Ensure that company and regulatory safety and environmental practices are implemented and followed.

Establish effective communication with customers, clients, management, personnel, and suppliers. Actively participate in customer relations and development.

Promote efficiency. Eliminate and/or minimize overhead where possible.

Encourage fluid communication of operations at all levels and hold as appropriate meetings with staff and management to convey goals and objectives. Demand timely and appropriate reports from staff team.

 

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

a. Ensure cleanliness of personal workplace. Ensure subordinates perform the same.

b. Coach staff with professional and personal issues. Assist personnel in obtaining appropriate training and development and help them seek out aid resources as needed.

c. Assist in performance reviews of staff, enforce company policies and enact and follow through with discipline procedures when required.

d. All other tasks as assigned by the board of directors.

 

Required Skills:

Education:

Undergraduate Business and Administration Degree (preferred); or Business, Accounting, or related Diploma (acceptable with experience).

Experience:

2-5 years’ experience in similar accounting roles; or 10 years of bookkeeping experience in industry.

Advanced Accounting & Bookkeeping Skills

Proficiency in using accounting software programs, knowing how to prepare and interpret financial statements and other reports, developing efficient financial reporting methods, and planning and implementing accounting controls. Must have a working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Computer Skills

Must have basic computer skills including Microsoft Office suite of applications. Must have advanced spreadsheet manipulation knowledge. Proficiency using SYSPRO specifically or equivalent accounting software is a plus.

Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving and ability to motivate, coach, develop, and retain team members for high performance.

Communication Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, present, assert, and speak in professional language in English (Spoken, Written, & Read).

General Responsibilities:

Safety – All LIFE personnel are required to participate and comply with company safety rules and safe work practices as outlined in the company’s safety policy and Safety Management System (SMS). This includes conducting regular hazard assessments when starting new assignments and when work site conditions dictate. Personnel are to ensure that daily safety checks are performed as its relates to the work they perform. All personnel are required to take action to stop and report unsafe conditions.

Customer Relations – LIFE personnel will often have contact with the company customers and clients. Customers are the most important part of our business and personnel are required to treat each customer courteously and with respect. It is very important that the concerns, directions and opinions of customers are recorded and passed on to the company’s management team.

Personal Protective Equipment – LIFE personnel are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment that is approved and required for their particular work assignment. Personnel are also responsible to ensure that others adhere to the appropriate PPE procedures and guidelines as per the SMS and good practice.

ISO 9001 Policy – LIFE personnel are required to participate and comply with all ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) policy and procedures as they relate to their position and work assignments. Managers and supervisors are to ensure compliance of all personnel and staff within their influence.
